Luling Main Street is involved in several things right now that will start to be front and center in the next few months. The community will know right away when some these projects start to take form and they will certainly stir conversation around town when they do. It will be perfectly obvious to anyone with eyes and ears that Luling has some new features to talk about thanks to the efforts of our LMS volunteers. These community improvements will be something that we can all take pride in and enjoy for years to come. And although some of these projects will be very prominent and certainly create a buzz, there are other less obvious things going on that are just as important to sustaining a positive “Luling Experience” for all of us. The 4-Point Approach of Main Street dictates that we create a viable “Organization” to be able to, “Promote” our events and ideals, use “Design” to educate and the beautify our district, and help with “Economic Restructuring” aspects as we try to elevate our community to new heights. The first 3 points tend to be more tangible and easier to quantify. The last one is just the opposite. But helping our business owners by providing resources and activities that help create a positive impact on their bottom line is just as important. While the first 3 points go a long way in creating and maintaining an exciting and revitalized business district, it is the last point that I’d like to highlight right now.
A few months back LMS sponsored 25 business owners on an out of town trip to attend a Destination Marketing Workshop. The speaker was a renowned marketing whiz who focused on how to make your business a “destination business”. The type of business that makes consumers trip all over themselves trying figure out a way to hurry up and get to your place of business out of fear that they may miss out on something. But to create this kind of excitement in your products or services, you probably need have something to offer that is unique and gives the masses something to talk about. We currently have a couple of these type businesses here in Luling that have people foaming at the mouth for the opportunity to come experience what they have to offer. But who says we can’t have a few more? So with that in mind, our group has been spearheading monthly business luncheons every third Thursday of every month. We have purchased a service that allows us to access both live and archived webinars that teaches these “destination business” principles and gives our business owners some tools to add to their toolbox. We have shown three webinars so far and we invite everyone to come join us if you are interested in applying some useful ideas to your own businesses. The next luncheon will be Thursday Sept. 19th at 11:45 AM. Everyone has to eat lunch, – so we have been showing a quick webinar while you eat at one of our local restaurants. We are trying to keep it within a normal lunch hour so you can network, learn a little something, then get on with your busy day. With help from the Chamber of Commerce and the Luling Economic Development Corp, we have opened this up to everyone who wants to participate and not just those in our district. I know that in “small business USA” it can be tough to break away sometimes, but if you are not completely satisfied with where you are in your current business cycle, come join us. Who knows, maybe you’ll uncover a nugget that peaks your interest and helps get you a step closer to achieving your goals. Call or come by if you want to be added to our invitation list.
